New Land Law Amendments in Goa

On Saturday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of Goa announced that the recent amendments to land laws aim to regularize the homes of indigenous Goans and protect them from demolition.

While addressing the public online in the presence of revenue officials, Sawant mentioned that approximately 95 percent of those who will benefit from these changes are original Goans who have constructed homes on government or community-owned lands.

He stated, “Even three generations after liberation from Portuguese rule, Goans have lived in fear of their homes being demolished due to a lack of documentation. The recent amendments are intended to provide security for such homes.”

The Chief Minister also revealed that the plan to legalize homes under the revised laws will come into effect on September 15, 2025. Once implemented, beneficiaries will be able to obtain application forms from the respective sub-district officers and panchayats.
